STOP LOOTING THE MGNREGA
Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act brought a lot of hope & aspirations among the poor , daily labourers . All political leaders, intellectuals, journalists, social activists even the civil society organizations did not remain without praising the historical act. The sole purpose of the scheme is to provide 100 days employment guarantee to minimize the rate of migration & to enhance food security in the country . But the P I L filled by Centre for Environment & Food Security before the Honorable Supreme Court of India challenging on the irregularities & corruption made by Govt. of Odisha in MGNREGA violating the act & the hon’ble Supreme Court’s order for C B I investigation indicates how much the act be beneficial for the above target group who had a dream for the survival of their livelihood & to ensure their food security .
Although there is provision to provide 100 days employment opportunities to the unskilled lab ours but so far the Govt data is concerned in2007-2008 there are 40,000 , in 2008-2009 there are 52,000 , in 2009-2010 there are 80,000 & in2010-2011 there are 1,85,000 families only covering 100 days work under MG NREGA .But no facilities are provided to encourage them even they have been deprived of getting their wage . Delay payment is a major cause for which the lab ours are less interested to work under MGNREGA . Migration is increasing day by day & in most of the areas machines are working instead of person .
